Robbie Williams concert in Budapest

Robbie Williams concert in Budapest 2017Four days after Robbie Williams has performed in Prague, it is time for the same singer to perform at the Groupama Arena in Budapest. Sounds cool?

Robbie Williams will perform in Prague on August 19th, meaning that the concert in Budapest will be arranged at August 23rd. Normally the Budapest Sportarena is used for such concerts, but this time they will go outside and arrange the concert at the Groupama Arena. This is the venue normally used by Ferencvaros to play their football matches at, and it is also used by the Hungarian national team as they play their matches in the World Cup 2018 qualification.

As Robbie Williams come to Budapest he is almost finished with his “Heavy Entertainment Tour” in 2017. He will perform in a couple of more cities after the Budapest concert, for example in Vienna and Moscow. But, the best place to enjoy a Robbie Williams concert is for sure in Budapest, where you can enjoy a fantastic river cruise, a nice brewery visit and do lots of other great programs combined with the Robbie Williams concert.

Concerts all across Europe

There will be loads of great concerts in cities all across Europe during the summer of 2017, but unfortunately some of the biggest hotshots skip out on their visit to Budapest this summer. While there will be fantastic London concerts with Adele, Coldplay, U2, Guns N Roses and Deep Purple this summer, Budapest will not get a visit by any of these.

Bruno Mars concert in Budapest

Are you a big fan of Bruno Mars? Come to Budapest Sportarena to experience Bruno Mars and his 24K Magic World Tour on May 30th in 2017.

By the time Bruno Mars comes to Budapest, summer has hopefully arrived to town long ago. You can therefore plan for beautiful weather, lots of sunshine, nice temperatures and fabulous music as you plan your weekend trip to Budapest, including a concert with Bruno Mars.

There are few artists in the world today as popular as Bruno Mars. His real name is Peter Hernandez, and he has produced some of the biggest hits in the world in the latter years. He even performed in the half time show during the Super Bowl back in 2016, which again says something about his status in the world today. The guy himself isn’t really that old, considering that he was born in 1985, making him 31 years at the moment.

Bruno Mars will probably not join us on a river cruise on the Danube, but if you first come to Budapest, you should not miss out on this popular activity. To enjoy a river cruise is a fantastic experience, especially in the evening. There are loads of other programs available in town as well, and we always recommend our visitors to taste some Hungarian wine, to join in on a guided tour and to visit the most important sights in Budapest.

Natalie Imbruglia concert in Budapest

Natalie Imbruglia concert BudapestOn May 2nd the fantastic singer Natalie Imbruglia will perform in Budapest in the center of the city, at the Akvarium Klub. Would you like to be there?

While most famous singers coming to Budapest perform in venues like the Budapest Sportarena or the Petofi Csarnok, Natalie Imbruglia will be much closer to her audience. The Akvarium Klub is located in the very heart of Budapest, by the metro stop Deak Ferenc ter (where three of the metro-lines intersect), and it is a quite small venue, meaning that it will be a real close up with the star if you decide to be there in the audience.

The most famous Natalie Imbruglia song is probably Torn, a song made back in 2009. If she will sing Torn during the Budapest concert we do not know yet, but if you are a fan, this is the place you want to be on May 2nd in 2017.

Andre Rieu is coming to Budapest to perform at least once a year. He is always filling up the Budapest Sportarena with spectators, and it is no secret that he has thousands of fans in Hungary. If you were hoping for an extra concert in Budapest due to his popularity we will however have to disappoint you. When Andre Rieu comes to Budapest he is on a tight schedule. What are the dates for the Budapest Christmas markets in 2017?

We have just welcomed 2017, but tourists from around the world are already preparing their Christmas travels for 2017. An important information when planning such a trip are the dates for the Christmas markets in Budapest.

You might have heard about the splendid Christmas markets in Budapest? They have delicious food, they have beautiful lights and lots of souvenirs, and they are Christmas markets you do not want to miss out on for the world. So, what would be worse than coming to Budapest only to discover that the Christmas market just closed yesterday, or that they will open the day after you depart from Budapest.

So, what are the dates for the Christmas markets in Budapest in 2017?

When will the Christmas markets in Budapest open in 2017?

Christmas market in Budapest 2017

Unfortunately the dates are not yet released. As soon as they will be made public we will publish a dedicated article on the subject, and we will also update our main page about the Christmas markets in Budapest. So, check out the page just linked to, check our blog or check out what’s on in Budapest to see if we have any updated information on the topic.

We do however have a guess when it comes to dates for the Christmas market at Vorosmarty square, but that is only a guess, so you should not book your flight tickets based on these. What we can promise is that December is a safe month to come to Budapest. The Christmas markets will be open both at Vorosmarty square and in front of the St. Stephens Basilica. The more interesting questions are:

  • When will the Christmas markets open in November?
  • When will the Christmas markets close in January?

Our guess is that the Christmas markets will open on November 10th or 11th at the Vorosmarty square and that they will be open till either January 1st or till January 7th.

The actual Christmas market 2017 dates!

Our guess was for the Christmas market to open on November 10th or 11th, and the correct date is November 10th! The final date of the Christmas market is December 31st.

November 10 – December 31, 2017

But, these are only guesses, so again – December is a safe month, but that is all we can promise!

Dzsúzda – Coffe and Juicebar in Szigetszentmiklos

Are you looking for something really healthy to drink and eat? Or maybe just a cup of coffee to wake up? Are you in Szigetszentmiklos? Time to visit Dzsúzda!

Last week we got the chance to visit the recently opened juice-bar in Szigetszentmiklos named Dzsuzda. As the name suggest the main focus is one juices, but they do of course serve tea and coffee in addition to a sweet mixture of juices and smoothies.

The menu at Dzsuzda is changing from day to day, but they already have a couple of favorites on their menu that we believe will remain there for a long time. We drank ourselves mostly through the menu as we visited the juice bar and we also tasted a fresh salad and their raw chocolate cake. Did we like it?

Raw Cocoa drink
Raw cake and fantastic smoothie in Dzsuzda in Szigetszentmiklos

Healthy is not enough, it has to be tasty as well!

We absolutely love healthy food, but it is not enough that food (and drinks) are healthy. They also have to taste well! That is why we were curious to taste the raw chocolate cake available in the juice bar. It was made up by a mixture of raw cocoa, by date, cocoa fat and some more ingredients. As it was served it was a bit cold, but waiting for a few minutes it was really tasty and it was probably the best raw cake I have ever tasted!

I am not so much of a salad guy, but the salad was also nice and tasty (but if you are a salad person it will probably taste much better for you)! The highlight was however to taste all the smoothies available in Dzsuzda. They had a tropical smoothie available, a Shrek smoothie and a chocolate smoothie. They were all very tasty (and healthy), but the highlight was of course the chocolate smoothie which tasted much like a cup of hot chocolate, except from the fact that it was cold and very healthy!

Visit Dzsuzda in Szigetszentmiklos

If you want to visit Dzsusda in Szigetszentmiklos, go ahead and visit it right away. It is open every day from 9.00 till 18.00. The address is Tököli út 26 and you can also visit their Facebook site right here.

Where is Szigetszentmiklos?

If you are a tourist coming to Budapest this juice-bar might not be so interesting for you. If you however pass by Szigetszentmiklos this might be nice to now. It is a small city located 25 kilometres from the heart of Budapest, so if you have a car you will be there in less than 30 minutes.

Free shipping from Amazon.de to Hungary!

Amazon.de just offered the people of Hungary a nice Christmas present. Since mid-November 2016, they offer free shipping to Hungary!

As you can see in the image above you can have your orders placed at Amazon.de delivered for free to Hungary, if they exceed 39 Euro. That is quite brilliant, considering that 39 Euro is about 12,000 HUF, making it similar to the limits Hungarian web-shops use for free delivery themselves. Hungary is not the only country enjoying this, because Amazon.de now delivers for free to Slovakia, Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark and Finland in addition to Hungary.

If  you press the link above you will be sent to Amazon.de, but you will notice one strange thing. The German store will be in English, making it much easier to do your shopping. It is no secret that German was the favored language in Hungary for a long time, but in the last ten years this has drastically change, and now English is the number one foreign language in the country. That is why you will be happy to press the link above and discover that you can shop from Amazon.de in English.

2022 update: This article is out of date. This was true in 2016, but it is no longer like this! You can still shop from Amazon.de, but you have to pay for the shipping. The shipping fees, however, are not that crazy, and normally products are delivered in less than a week. As a result, this is a great option.

One other thing that is nice to know is that you do not have to pay any import cost (VAT) on products ordered through Amazon.de as you order from within the EU.

Visit the Amazon.de website

You can find a new and updated article about ordering from Amazon to Hungary right here.

What to shop from Amazon.de to Hungary in English?

Since we now enjoy free delivery on orders exceeding 39 Euro you can buy almost anything from Amazon.de. And there are lots of products that you will find to be much cheaper. It is for example often cheaper to buy games for your gaming console at Amazon in Germany, you will lots of clothes and of course international products. Look around at Amazon.de and be surprised at all the great products (and prices available).

You might wonder why we write about this here in our Budapest Guide! Well, you might find great stuff at the Christmas market in Budapest, but if you live in Hungary you might have greater use for the products available at Amazon in Germany then the ones you get at the Christmas market. Give it a try and see if this is shopping for you or not!

The free shipping on orders exceeding 39 Euro is only available for orders dispatched by Amazon. It is important to check this before placing your order, if not you might get a surprise in the end.

Depeche Mode has performed in Budapest several times and whenever they come it is completely packed at the arena. Normally they have had their Budapest concerts at the Puskas Ferenc Stadium, but since that is under renovation the Depeche Mode concert in Budapest in 2017 will have to be arranged at the Groupama Arena instead. Watch out for wrong currencies as you travel with taxi in Budapest

The taxis in Budapest does not have the best rumor in the world, and that is easy to understand. Watch out for how much you pay and for the change you get back as you use the taxis in Budapest.

Last week we arranged a guided tour for a nice group of Scandinavians in Budapest. They were a pleasant group and we had a great time together as we discovered Budapest together. Along the way the guide told them a couple of good advises concerning taxi traveling in Budapest:

  • Order your taxi from your hotel or your restaurant.
  • Do not jump on taxis on the street.
  • Watch out for the change they give you back, and especially pay attention to receive back money in the right currency.
  • The fact that a taxi is yellow does not guarantee you anything.

Those were the advises we gave. 48 hours later we met the group again to go on a half-day trip to Szentendre with wine tasting and more cool stuff. They had some interesting stories to tell by then!

Budapest taxis
Watch out for taxis in Budapest so that you will not be ripped off!

Some horrible Budapest taxi stories

First taxi rip-off in Budapest

First of all some of the ladies in the group had traveled alone. They jumped on a taxi on the street and by the time they reached their hotel he wanted them to pay 40,000 HUF (a normal fare in Budapest should cost between 1500-4000 HUF). They did not really know for sure how much that was by then, and the driver looked really scary, so they paid. It didn’t take much time before they knew they had been ripped off heavily.

Second taxi rip-off(s) in Budapest

Then it was interesting to hear that several other people in the group had experienced the same problem that we told them about during the guided tour. They paid for the taxi ride (which had a okay fare), but then it was time to receive the change. Instead of getting back 10,000 Hungarian Forint they receive Indonesian money (which has no value at all compared to the Hungarian Forint). Some others received change in another currency as well. Some of them discovered it and got really made at the driver (who according to the tourists almost peed in his pants), while someone only discovered that they had been tricked a few moments later.

Budapest taxi rip-offs

It is incredibly common with such rip-offs in Budapest. 95% of such things happen when you jump into a cab on the street. Avoiding such will save you from most trouble. But, stay alert and if you jump into a cab on the street, feel free to write down the number plate (before you enter) so that you have something to fight with in case there should be trouble in some kind of way. If you are afraid of a fight, do not jump on a taxi on the street instead.
