The inner part of the seventh district of Budapest is known as the Jewish ghetto of Budapest. During the Second World War a wall was built around this area, and the Jews could only leave the ghetto with permission. Several synagogues can be found in this area today, some kosher restaurants and shops, a rabbi training school, and also the “tree of life”, found in the garden of the great synagogue.
The Synagogue was finished in 1859, and has room for more than 3000 people. Inside you can also find a Jewish Museum.
