Many hot-shots will come to Budapest in 2010; Depeche Mode, Paul Potts, Mark Knopfler and more! But, a new world famous band has just entered the list: Metallica. The band was formed in 1981 and has it origins in Los Angeles and they have sold more than 50 million albums in the United States alone. Now they are coming to Budapest, and it might be that they will not join us on a guided tour, but if we and you would like to see them I guess the best way is to grab hold of a ticket to the concert which will be held at the Puskas Ferenc Stadium.

The Alchemy of Beauty: Museum of Fine Arts

A new exhibition is coming to the Museum of Fine Arts located at the Heroes Square in Budapest. The full name of the exhibition is: “The Alchemy of Beauty: Parmigianino – Drawings and Prints”. It seems as if the Museum of Fine Arts likes Italy as this is their third exhibition in a row featuring paintings and works of Italians!

1 December 2009 – 15 March 2010

Some words about the exhibition from the organizers:
The graceful elegance of Parmigianino’ works was regarded by his contemporaries and the succeeding generations as the perfection of style. The Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest does not preserve any of his paintings, however, we own an extensive collection of his drawings and prints. Parmigianino was a passionate and prolific draughtsman. Almost one thousand sheets have survived, representing the richest drawing oeuvre of sixteenth-century Italy, with the exception of Leonardo. The diversity of the themes and techniques of the twenty autograph drawings in the Collection of Prints and Drawings represent every period of the artist’s career and provide an insight into his magnificent art.

Árpád Striped flag in Budapest

A new temporary exhibition is coming to the Holocaust Museum in Budapest. The exhibition is called “The Árpád-Stripers then and now” and it is for sure an exhibition that has something to say in todays political situation in Hungary discussing the origin of the Árpád-striped flag and the famous Turul bird. This sounds interesting, so I hope I will be able to visit it myself!

Holocaust Museum
November 27, 2009 – February 28, 2010

Some words about the exhibition from the organizers:
After 1990 extreme right-wing groups have appeared in Hungary, which openly own Arrow Cross and Nazi traditions, too. This can be well observed in the adoption and emulation of the symbolisms of the right-wing movements in the interwar period in general, and in the 1930s and 1940s in particular. The successors today either do not know, or, what is worse, they know perfectly well what symbols they are using.

In the exhibition the Árpád-striped flag, the flags of Kings Emeric, Saint Ladislas and Mathias Hunyadi and of Prince Ferenc Rákóczi, as well as the turul bird are displayed as historical relics, which have nothing much in common with today’s usage.

Christmas Market Vienna: pictures and inforation

The Christmas Market in Vienna has already opened and we were there this weekend. It was packed with people and everyone enjoyed the glühwein and all the small shops located outside the “Rathaus” in Vienna. I am said to say so, but the Christmas Market in Vienna looks quite a lot better than the one in Budapest, but that probably has to do with the fact that the square in front of the Rathaus (City Hall) is better for such a market than Vörösmarty Square in Budapest. Some more markets will open in Vienna by Schönbrunn and Belvedere in a couple of days.

If you come to Budapest, you should for sure consider a day trip to the Christmas Market in Vienna.

Atany, a village in Hungary: Museum of Ethnography

If you are looking for information about life in a small village in Hungary, this exhibition might be interesting for you. In the time after the Second World War things changed quickly and the people working with agriculture had to change both equipment and technology. In this exhibition about Atany you will see people objects and get insight into the life of a farmer in the time after the Second World War, in Atany. The exhibition will be held in the Museum of Ethnography.

December 4: Night of the Baths in Budapest

Szechényi Fürdő
Szechényi Fürdő

We are currently working on giving our visitors an overview over open restaurants, thermal baths and so on December 24, 25 & 26. In the reply we got from Budapest Gyógyfürdői Zrt. they gave us the information we were looking for (which can be found in the “Christmas in Budapest” article) and some more information about the Night of the Baths which will be arranged December 4, 2009.

Night of the Baths 2009
The Night of the Baths is the evening/night where you can swim and enjoy the thermal water in Budapest until after midnight and enjoy nice programs as you do so.

In the Gellért Bath there will be music from the 90’s, in Rudás Fürdő there will be bellydancing and in Szechényi Fürdő there will be live music entertaining the guests.

I guess it will be quite cold outside on December 4, but if you stay in the water you will for sure enjoy even the outdoor pools at the Szechényi Thermal Bath (which by the way is extremely nice and has a great atmosphere after the sun has gone down)!

Paul Potts Budapest

Paul Potts Budapest 2010

I have some great news to all our readers. Paul Potts is coming to Budapest in 2010. The singer who won the Britains Got Talent earlier has become a world star since his first performance, singing Nessum Dorma. The video which has been seen by almost 60,000,000 pepole at YouTube gave him a big name at once, and since then it has only gotten bigger. And now the new superstar is coming to Budapest. Many claims that it is because of him that opera has become popular again, so if you have never liked opera, maybe this is your chance! The Paul Potts concert in Budapest will be held 4th of May 2010, in Budapest Sportarena.
