Szeged Vendéglő is one of those typical Hungarian restaurants, looking quite okay from the outside, but still it took me more than seven years to eat there for the first time since I arrived to Budapest. Not long ago I finally went there to eat, and it was a quite enjoyable evening.
We started with Hortobagyi pancake and a Hungarian fish soup, followed by traditional Hungarian courses and apple and a sour cherry struddel for desert. Everything tasted well, though nothing caught us by surprise in any way. Nothing was extraordinary, except from maybe the folklore show that actual evening. In general I am not to fund of these kind of shows, and even less found of annoying musicians touring the restaurant to sell cd’s and maybe get some extra “tip” from some happy guests. The violinplayer did tour the restaurant, but the dancers and the singer of the folklore event did it with a big smile and it was in fact quite enjoyable!
The style of the restaurant is like a “csárda” outside Budapest somewhere, so it felt quite authentic.
