Downtown Beer Festival 2024
Are you in the mood for tasting more than 250 kinds of beer? Does it sound nice to eat street food from different food trucks at one of the most beautiful squares in Budapest? Welcome to the Downtown Beer Festival in Budapest!
Hungary is a country known for its wine production, but it is getting more and more attention because of beer production. As a result, several festivals celebrate Hungarian beer, and the Downtown Beer Festival is one of those. If you want to drink even more beer, you should come to Budapest for the Budapest Beer Week (normally arranged in May).
One of the fantastic things about this beer festival is that it is completely free. Anyone can visit the beautiful Szabadság tér (Liberty square) during the festival without paying. You must pay if you want to eat and drink, but there is no fee for visiting the area.
The festival has a special glass required to buy beer from the different food trucks. In other words, if you really want to be a part of the festival, the awesome-looking festival glasses can be considered an entrance fee (which you only need to pay if you want to consume beer in the festival area). The price of such a glass is about 10 euros.
One great thing about this festival is that it is popular among locals. As a result, you will meet lots of Hungarians if you come to the festival area.

How to get to the festival area?
Liberty Square is very central in Budapest. It is between the Hungarian Parliament and the St. Stephen’s Basilica. As a result, many people walk across this square as they discover the city on their own. If you want to travel to the square by public transportation, the best options are tram number 2 and walking from the Parliament, or by using the blue metro and walking from the stop “Arany János utca.” If you are at the Vörösmarty square (a very popular square in Budapest), walk to the Budapest Eye and follow “Oktober 6. utca” until you end up at the festival square.
If you come to Budapest for a longer period, do not forget that only a few days later it is time for the annual Buda Castle Wine Festival, the biggest wine festival in Hungary. It is definitely a festival worth visiting if you want to drink and taste more of the alcoholic liquids produced in Hungary.
