According to booking.com there are at the moment 17 hotels with five stars in Budapest. That is quite a lot, so if you are looking for a luxury hotel in Budapest there are plenty of hotels to choose between.
Due to the large amount of hotels the prices are pressed, so at a good day you can find a room in a five star hotel for less than 100 Euro per night with breakfast included. But, do not be tricked, because some of the five star hotels have a bad location, so the goal of this article is to point out the best five star hotels in central Budapest, meaning that in the moment you leave the hotel, you are less than five minutes from Vaci utca (shopping street in Budapest).
Two of the most luxurious and popular five star hotels in Budapest are Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal and Boscolo New York. But, they will not be added to this list, as their location is “quite far” away from the city center, meaning a minimum 10-15 minute walk to reach the Vaci utca.
Best five star hotels in central Budapest
Kempinski
This is one of our personal favorites and the hotel is located on Elisabeth square (Erzsébet tér), next to Le Meridien (another five star hotel). The exterior of the hotel looks modern and the interior is beautiful with large open areas and great services available inside the walls of the hotel. When you leave the hotel you can walk straight into the Fashion street, or walk by the British embassy and then you will find yourself at Vörösmarty square where you find the famous Gerbeaud confectionery and maybe the most awarded restaurant in Budapest, Onyx. And let us not forget that inside the walls of Kempinski you can find the well known Nobu restaurant!

Buddha-Bar Hotel
While Kempinski is a very modern building and hotel, Buddha-Bar hotel is located in the 19th century Klotild palace, by the Elisabeth bridge. The hotel opened to its visitors in 2012 and in some of the rooms you can find large bathtubs and the hotel also has a large SPA area. WiFi is free in the entire hotel and the location could not be better. Since the hotel just recently opened we do not know to much about it yet, but based on the feedback we have read and what guests we know have told us, we can warmly recommend this five star hotel very centrally located in Budapest.

Marriott
If you want a five star hotel in Budapest with an amazing view towards the Danube and the Buda side Marriott is the hotel you want to stay in. There are other five star hotels located along the Danube on the Pest side such as InterContinental and Four Seasons, but Marriott has the very best panorama. The hotel has 364 rooms, and all of them offer a stunning panorama. In addition you have a beautiful fitness room where you can exercise enjoying the panorama, you can swim in the swimming pool, sweat in the saunas and have a delicious meal in Peppers! Mediterranean Grill. WiFi is not free, but you can pay extra to get internet connection in your hotel room. But who needs to watch a computer screen when you have such an amazing view from your hotel room?

These are our top choices if you want to stay in a five star hotel with central location in Budapest. You could of course consider Le Meridien, InterContinental, Sofitel and Four Seasons as well as these also have superb location, but these are our favorites.
What about the other five star hotels?
There are many other five star hotels in Budapest, but as we mentioned earlier their locations are not favorable if it is important to you to live very central. Iberostar Grand Hotel Budapest and Hotel President are both quite close, but still not in the very center (6-7 minutes from Vaci utca on foot). Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal, Boscolo New York and Queen’s Court and Residence are a bit further away on foot, meaning that you have to walk about 15 minutes to get to Vaci utca. Hilton Buda is located as the name says on the Buda side which means that public transportation or a taxi is the best way to get to the Pest side. Another option is the beautiful walk down the Fishermens Bastion, across the Chain Bridge and then to the shopping street, but you might not want to do this all the time. Hilton WestEnd is nice, but why live in a shopping center when you can live in the very center of Budapest instead? Mamaison Hotel Andrassy is only a few minutes from the Heroes Square, meaning about 2,5km from Vaci utca which is a serious walking distance for some.
The five star hotel with the worst location is Aquincum Hotel Budapest (often referred to as Ramada Plaza Budapest). This is located by the Arpad bridge which is the most northern bridge in Budapest, almost 5km from Vaci utca. They have a very nice SPA area, but that does not make up for the location!
Good luck on your hotel booking and if you have thoughts on the subject, disagree/agree or have any experience, please write a comment!
