Chocolate museum in Corvin

Sometimes shops are given names that doesn’t exactly describe what is actually is. That is the truth for the Chocolate museum (original name: Csokolade muzeum) located in Corvin shopping center. It is a great place for chocolate lovers, but I guess the reality is that the place is more of a chocolate shop than a chocolate museum.

Not long ago I noticed this place as I visited the Corvin shopping center. Readers of the Budapest blog probably know by now that I am a chocolate lover, so of course I visit the chocolate museum/shop to see what they had to offer.

What can be found in the Chocolate museum?

Inside the walls of the chocolate museum you will find exactly what you expect to find, tons of chocolate. The main product of the shop are all kinds of Rakoczi products, but in addition you can buy traditional chocolates and quite a lot of imported Belgian chocolate and Mozart sweets. They have some special stuff in this shop that I have not seen to many other places, so you can buy a piece of chocolate with a tea spoon which should be placed inside a cup of hot milk, and within a few minutes your cup of hot chocolate is ready.

Since the profile of the shop is the Rakoczi brand you can buy really exclusive Rakoczi chocolate with all kinds of strange ingredients. I bought a white chocolate with strawberries, orange tea, lemongrass and other snacks added to it. It looked and tasted differently and I guess the word remaining on my tongue after the chocolate had melted was „interesting.”

In addition to all kinds of chocolate you can also buy chocolate fondue equipment, tea bags, some toys and other effects in the chocolate museum. Not a place I couldn’t live without, but if you are a chocolate lover you should probably drop by the place if you ever are in the area near Corvin cinema and the Corvin shopping center.

Beer and Blues festival in Budapest

This weekened there will be a Beer and Blues festival arranged in Budapest. The area is the Corvin quarter (Corvin negyed) which can easily be reached using the blue metro.

This festival is arranged for the first time in Budapest this weekend and on both Saturday and Sunday there will be great concerts, competition and events in the festival area which is just next to the Corvin shopping mall. There will be quite some micro breweries represented at the festival, but people can also taste Hungarian wine, palinka and of course traditional food meanwhile listening to blues music at the festival.

Dates: September 26th and 27th

The official programs will take place between 16.00 and 22.00 on the two festival days. Entrance to the area is of course free!

The most famous artist performing is Big Daddy Wilson. Come and join this great initiative.

Corvin shopping center grand opening

Yesterday Corvin Shopping Center (Corvin bevásárlóközpont) opened in Budapest. Most shops had great discounts and in the evening the participants in X-Faktor entered the stage in the new shopping mall.

From morning till evening the center was packed with curious people, both young and old, curious at what this new shopping center in the eight district of Budapest had to offer. To be honest it does not have so much new stuff, but one shop that is brand new is Butlers. Until now Hungarians had to travel to Vienna to find this shop, but now it can be found in Budapest as well 🙂

Besides this many other shops could be found in the center (check out our Corvin shopping center page for more information), and many more will be opened within the coming months. The center was not completely finished, and many places work was still done to get this center up and ready.

At 20:30 in the evening the participants from X-Faktor in Hungary entered the stage and they all sang two songs each. Beneath you can see a video showing clips from all artists, and a video showing both songs performed by Norbert L. Király.

Corvin shopping center opening today

Corvin shoppingcenter in Budapest — Corvin shopping center in Budapest - opening today

Budapest newest shopping center is opening today. The name of the center in Hungarian is Corvin Bevásárlóközpont, and it is a part of the project named Corvin Sétány (Corvin Avenue). This is a project in the eight district of Budapest, known as one of the worst districts in the capital, demolishing old and ugly houses, building new flats, opening new restaurants, a shopping center, a fitness center and creating new office buildings.

Today is the day of the official opening of the shopping center, while most restaurants in the area are expeceted only to open in March/April 2011. In Corvin Shopping center you can find for example: C&A, Hervis, Alexandro (book store), T-Mobile, CBA (grocery store) and quite some more shops. Maybe this new centre also will bring life to the kind of abandoned Corvin cinema?
