Museum of Fine Arts to close down for three years

Museum-of-Fine-Arts-BudapestThe Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest will be closed temporarily from the middle of February 2015 due to the renovations of the museum.

The museum will be closed from 15th February in 2015 and the reconstruction works will supposedly last three years, but in theory they plan to reopen the museum again in the summer of 2017. At the moment the Museum of Fine Arts only show three exhibitions to its visitors which includes the exhibition on Rembrandt which presents the most beautiful works of the artist.

The Museum of Fine Arts is located at Város Liget (City Park) in Budapest which is one of the largest green areas of the city. The City Park gives home to several attractions such as the zoo, the Szèchenyi bath or the Museum of Fine Arts. The Museum of Fine Arts is located just at the Hero Square which is one of the most famous spots in the city. The museum is a neo-Renaissance and neo-Classicist building which opened its gates the first time in 1906. The museum has a wide range of collections of the most outstanding artists including Rembrandt, Raffaello, Leonardo, Monet, Goya and Dürer so do not forget to check the museum out before it closes and keep it mind the next time in the summer of 2017 will be open again.

Our other favourite is Füvèszkert which is located in the heart of the city. It is especially recommended for the lovers of flowers and different plants. Apart from the various beautiful plants and flowers Füvèszkert has a nice cafe house and a restaurant which is a perfect place to finish your romantic day.

If you are into baths then you most visit one of the baths Budapest has. Probably one of the most popular one is the Szèchenyi bath which is located on the Pest side in the City Park. The bath has 9 pools of different temperatures and the bath also offers various massages as well.

Apart from these Budapest has thousands of other places, restaurants and hotels for a perfect romantic holiday.

Robbie Williams to Sziget Festival in 2015

What is the weather like in Budapest in February?

Winter in BudapestBudapest has humid continental weather which means the winters are cold and the summers are warm. The winters in Budapest are quite variable and unpredictable but surely cold and it receives only little sunshine.

The coldest months of the year are December, January and February even March can be cold but the weather starts improving slowly but surely. January is definitely the coldest month in Budapest with long, grey days and pretty cold nights but the freezing temperature is getting better in February when the sun comes out more and the days get longer with every day.

In the winter in February the average temperature is between 4 °C and -2 °C so if you visit Budapest in the winter be prepared for the cold weather with warm clothes, gloves, scarf and hat. During the winter season the city frequently receives light snowfall but less and less each year. On the other hand Budapest has long summers usually from May until late September and the temperature is between 32 °C and 35 °C. In Budapest in the summer is not unusual to have 25 °C at night.

The Budavári Borfesztivál (International Wine festival ) is one of the most popular wine festivals in Budapest which is held each year at the breathtaking Buda Castle. This will be the 24th Budavári Borfesztivál which is one of the most visited wine festivals in the life of the city. Hungary is known by its wines and at the festival visitors will have the chance to try the best Hungarian wines from all over the country. At the wine festival over 200 wineries will present their most delicious wines and the festival represents all the Hungarian wine regions and the 140 different grape varieties as well.

Fish Festival in Budapest 2015

Fish festival BudapestThis will be the third time the Fish Festival (Budapesti Halfesztivál) will be held again in Budapest and it is the perfect time to try the best Hungarian dishes with fish.

This year the festival will take place in the end of February when Torkos Csütörtök will be held as well. The festival presents the different types of fishes living in the various lakes and rivers in Hungary such as the fish from the Danube, Tisza, lake Balaton and so on.

The festival mostly focuses on the traditional Hungarian specialties but at the festival visitors also have the chance to try several different international dishes with fish as well. At the festival visitors can try the traditional Hungarian fish soup (halászlé) but there will be sushi, Russian caviar, French fish soup and English fish and chips as well. Apart from the most delicious fish plenty of various programs and activities are waiting for the visitors at the festival.

This year the third Fish Festival will take place in Budapest at Vajdahunyadvár from 19th February to 22nd February in 2015. The entrance for the festival is free for everyone.

Torkos Csütörtök 2015 in Budapest

‘Torkos Csütörtök’, also known as Gluttonous Thursday, will be held again this year not only in Budapest but in several other Hungarian cities as well. What is it about? When is it arranged?

The ‘Torkos Csütörtök’ first was held in 2006 and it got so popular over the years that it grew it self out to one of the most popular events in the whole country. The ‘Torkos Csütörtök’ is a gastronomical event which is part of the carnival season of Hungary and it has a long history which has been always part of the Hungarian traditions. At this event several restaurants take part and it is a perfect opportunity to try the best restaurants in the city. All the participant restaurants offers their dishes for 50% on this special day. As it one of the most popular events in the city you should book your tables as soon as it possible because the restaurants quickly get full. As in the last few years over 1000 restaurants will take place in this event this year as well so there are many possibilities to choose from and it is also a perfect time to try new restaurants and new dishes as well.

This year the ‘Torkos Csütörtök’ will be held 19th February 2015 in various restaurants in the whole country. There are no list of the participant restaurants yet, but in general lots of restaurants are taking part in this event, except from Trofea Grill, Michelin restaurants and some of the other restaurants that are fully booked every evening anyway!

 

Alan Sonfist exhibition

The exhibition presents the works of the American artist Alan Sonfist for the first time in Budapest and it will be available until February 15th this year.

Alan Sonfist is one of the first and also the leading artists of the movement called environmental, earth or land art. The American artists is one of the most outstanding artist of the land art and he became famous with his first work ‘Time Landscape’ which he created in New York, Manhattan. This year the ‘Time Landscape’ celebrates its 50th birthday and in this occasion visitors will have the chance to explore this new form of art in Budapest. At the exhibition visitors have the chance to discover more on the art of Alan Sonfist and to explore more on this form of art as well. Alan Sonfist in his art works he deals with the history of nature and the effect people had on the Earth through the years and centuries. At the exhibition visitors can see nature and art from a new perspective. This is the first exhibition held in central and eastern Europe of the work of Alan Sonfist. The exhibition will take place at the Museum of Fine Arts Budapest from 18th December in 2014 until 15th February in 2015.
